Amazing news. Remember how yesterday I blogged about how Kane had lost deep pain sensation in one of his hind legs? Well one of Kane’s doctors called this morning and she sounded absolutely giddy. Apparently this morning they took him out to pee and not only did he pee on his own, he was also able to stand up on his own. That means he has the ability to place weight on his back legs which is a tremendous jump since yesterday when he couldn’t even feel deep pain. His progress is so significant that his doctor admitted that they were shocked by his rapid improvement in a single day’s time. I am thankfully that the Lord has heard our prayers and answered my request that he would heal Kane in such a manner that his doctors would be amazed by his progress. The sound of the doctor’s voice confirms that my (and our) prayer(s) were answered in a wonderful way. (more…)

As all of you know I’ve dealt with some pretty difficult problems ever since this Sunday. Between my beloved dog going from fully mobile to paralyzed in a matter of a few minutes to a major car repair in progress, this week hasn’t been easy on my head, my heart, or my wallet. [For those want more info: my car in the shop for a pretty major repair: heater core replacement]. Dealing with these issues really knocked me off my game so to speak.
We spent Sunday night at the Animal hospital until a half hour pas midnight- none of us has fully recovered from the combination of stress and a lack of sleep. I probably could have started working out again on Monday but I am still carrying a feeling I can’t fully describe. It feels like my head is in a dense fog and I just can’t seem to walk through it and find a sunny sky (or even a cloudy one that is at least cloud free).
It was just today that I confronted the question, how do I get out of this funk? (more…)

We made our first trip to the hospital today. We discussed the issue of our payment plan, received the unfortunate news that it appeared we might not be able to get any grants to cover the surgery (keep praying about this), and we paid off part of the bill. [BTW: If you do want to help defray some of the costs of Kane’s surgery just click this sentence.]
On a more positive note we saw Kane for about an hour. We walked outside with Kane and the doctors and learned how to help him pee by squeezing on his bladder- fun times. We saw some improvement in him placing a small amount of weight on his hind legs- YEAH!
Then we went into a comfy visiting room where Sasha prayed for Kane and we hung out together for a while. Here are some of the pictures and video from our visit.
How about the cutest thing first? Here is a video of Sasha and Kane together- sorry for the no sound, our digital cam stinks.
Next, the surgery scars
I told him that he was lucky in a way since chicks dig scars. (more…)

Surgery is complete. Is wasn’t perfect since he did have some spinal degeneration and fusing consistent with his age. However, the vet was able to remove the flap of bone that was causing his spinal cord to bulge. His spinal cord is now running straight as an arrow.
Now we are waiting to see if he can fell pain tomorrow. Even better if he can move his legs tomorrow. I will take a trip into town tomorrow to meet with his neurologist and of course visit the billing department. I hate to say this again, but since this wasn’t cheap, if you feel you can afford to help and feel led that way we sure could use the assistance. We would love to get together about $1,000 from donations if possible. We are also looking into grants and charitable organizations, but have found nothing thus far that will work.
Please keep praying about those grants and also pray that Kane will not only feel pain tomorrow but that he shows signs of movement and control in his hind limbs. Thanks to everyone!

I just got off the phone with the head neurologist. The news is mostly good. Kane will need surgery. His chances of a significant recovery after surgery are 80-90%. However, he has apparently had this disc problem for a while so there is some kind of significant build up around it that could cause some complications with the surgery- making it harder to remove. Please pray that Kane’s surgery is successful and if you can help us with the cost of Kane’s surgery please click here to see how and where to donate to Kane’s surgery fund. Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement. We are almost out of the woods. We will know more in about six hours.

First, thank you ALL for your prayers and kind comments over the last two days. You have helped us immensely, and your thoughts and prayers have been a greater blessing than we could ever hope to thank you for. But I must say the words that can’t possibly repay you, THANK YOU. If only I could give each and everyone of you a big hug.
Since Kane’s care doesn’t come cheap, and some have already asked if they could help out with a small donation, I decided to post a link here for those who want to provide some financial assistance for Kane’s care. If you want to help us pay for Kane’s treatment (MRI, surgery, etc.) please click on the link below which will take you to PayPal.
FYI: Current estimates for Kane’s care are $2,000 to $2,500 for his diagnostic treatments (x-rays, blood tests, MRI, exams, etc.) and, these numbers aren’t solid since the diagnostics won’t be completed until tomorrow, about $2,000 to $3,500 for surgery- depending on what he needs. We will know much more by tomorrow when he has his MRI, but the doctors think it is best to take him straight from his MRI to surgery- if it is required- since it is best to only put him under anesthesia once.
If you want to cut out the PayPal middle man (or you simply don’t have a PayPal account) just email email@example.com and I will gladly give you an address where you can send a check or money order. I appreciate all your help- and our whole family thanks you for your prayers and donations. Keep in mind that since I am NOT a 501(c)3 organization your donations are NOT tax deductible- even if they are enormously appreciated.
UPDATE: Kane is going for his MRI at 2:40 p.m. and will have his surgery immediately afterward if it is required. The spot on his lung turned out to be nothing and his blood work looked great. Praise God!

Blessing 1: Kane is being seen by one of the best doggy neurologists in the nation.
Blessing 2: The hospital IS WILLING to work out a reasonable payment plan.
Blessing 3: We MAY be eligible for charitable funds through the hospital- Please, keep praying for this!
