All three provide good and useful services, but is any one of them clearly better than the other two? The reviews are based on the features most of us would expect from a fitness tool/advice site. For each category/feature I will rate Traineo, Gyminee, and Sparkpeople. The format is simple, five categories (user-friendliness, groups, nutritional logging, exercise logging, and graphing capabilities) judged by placing each site into first, second, or third place. First place is awarded 3 points, second place 2 points; third place 1 point. At the end of this review the points are added up and the winner announced. Pretty simple, right? Good, well let’s start the reviews. (more…)

Do you like free stuff? Are you one of those folks who prides themselves on being green? Perhaps you are just cheap? If you answered yes to any of the above questions then Freecyle might be right up your alley.
What is Freecycle? I will let the folks over at Wikipedia explain it:
Freecycling, also known as Free Recycling, is the act of giving away usable but unneeded items to others instead of disposing of them in a landfill. This term is most often associated with online groups who run mailing lists which offer items to members at no cost. – Wikipedia
It is that simple. You place “wanted” posts if there is a particular item you need, and respond to “offer” posts when something catches your eye. Everything from freezers to doll houses, play sets to bedroom sets are up for grabs. It is usually first come first serve, the first person to respond to the offeror who can pick up the item by a certain time (usually within the next day or two) makes the neccessary arrangements.
Just go to the Freecycle site and input your city (or county) and state. From there you can connect with Freecyclers all over the United States and across the globe. For example:
Wake County, North Carolina: 7,705 members
Hennepin County, Minnesota: 13,226 members- those of you who live there know who you are 😉
Albany, New York: 3,700 members
And the list goes on and on…
We LOVE Freecycle! Thus far we have picked up a full size kitchen play set, two doll houses, and various and sundry little items. We have given away lots of clothes (never worn) and books. Join up and see what you can contribute to and find in the Freecycle community in your area. All it costs you is the price of gas to travel and pick up the item- and of course to bring it home. Happy Freecycling!
