THANK YOU ALL!  Because of your kindness and generosity we are half way to our goal of raising $1,000 to help with the costs of Kane’s $4,000 treatment and surgery.  If you want to help us make it all the way to our goal (and possibly beyond) just click here for more information on how to help out.  We appreciate all that you guys and gals have done.  It is amazing watching the blogging community come together for our boy Kane.

Also, it is only a few more days until Kane comes home. My mom donated a big dog bed for him (since his current dog bed isn’t big enough and he slips off of it) and a large comforter.  He is going to be plenty comfortable when he gets home.  Until then Lucius is quite happy to keep it warm for him.

The Banana Oatmeal Cookie recipe to help cheer you up:

I doubled the chocolate chips, added extra cinnamon, and baked for 9 minutes.

    INGREDIENTS
    · 1 cup butter-flavored shortening
    · 1 cup sugar
    · 2 eggs
    · 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    · 2 cups all-purpose flour
    · 1 teaspoon baking soda
    · 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    · 1 teaspoon ground cloves
    · 3 medium bananas, mashed
    · 2 cups quick-cooking oats
    · 1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

    DIRECTIONS
In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon and cloves; add to creamed mixture and mix well. Stir in bananas, oats and chocolate chips.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes. Immediately remove cookies to wire racks to cool. Yield: about 4 dozen.

  2. “added extra cinnamon”

You can’t miss with that. I guess it would defeat the purpose to add in shredded coconut, right?
