Well the spare room is almost completely painted- the doors need a third coat of paint. With that done we can start putting together our introduction book.  What is an introduction book you might ask?  Well even if you didn’t you are about to find out.  The Introduction book is a scrapbook that showcases your family (immediate and extended), home, and neighborhood to both social workers and potential adoptive children.  It provides them a way to get to know you and your family during the initial stages of the adoption process AND it can assist social workers as they decide whether a child is a good fit for your home and family.  Moreover, it is a great way to get family involved in the adoption process (parents, grandparents, uncles, cousins, etc.).  The prospective table of contents for our Introduction book looks something like this

I- Home/Neighborhood

II- The family (us, grandparents, uncles, etc.)

III- Church and Social Activities

IV- ????Am I missing anything???  Let me know in the comment section.

  1. Neil says:

Section IV is Blogging, of course.

Do the adoption folks not have a template for you? That looks like a good list. I’d think that the readers will be interested in all those things but mostly about you, your wife and your daughter.

  2. Well, actually, they don’t give you a template. I don’t even think that most people bother putting one together since it is optional.

The most important thing is that the book helps the child get some level of understanding about what life with our family is like and helps them get more comfortable with us prior to the placement.
