It appears now that the authorities have figured out some of the strange facts involved in the death of Chris Benoit and his family. I know this is a weight loss blog and I normally don’t talk about these kind of things, but I have long been a pro-wrestling fan. I admired Chris Benoit as a wrestler and other fans I know who have met him talked about what a great guy he was.

So it was shocking to learn that he spent this last weekend murdering his wife and child, and then committing suicide. Who could have seen it coming. Yes he had one domestic violence issue in the past. Yes he took steroids. Yes he lived his life in a faux violent sport that induced tons of stress (traveling 300 out of 365 day a year away from family). But to kill his wife and seven year old child. This is truly bizarre.

Odder still there are reports that he spent this past Sunday watching WWE’s vengeance PPV with his son shortly before murdering the child with some kind of bag (via suffocation).

What set him off? Rumors swirl about possible divorce proceedings, ‘roid rage, etc. The answer thus far is no one knows. The toxicology reports will give some clues about what kind and how many drugs were in his system- if any.

WWE is also in trouble as it aired a three hour tribute to Benoit last night before all these details came to light. Now numerous people have complained to the USA Network about a tribute dedicated to a child murderer. Things have gotten so bad it is rumored Vince McMahon will apologize on air tonight on the ECW show on SciFi.

For my part I congratulate WWE for doing what appeared the classy thing last night and airing a tribute to a wrestler who it seemed had been killed with his family. I don’t blame WWE for failing to foresee the horrible reality that a murder suicide has taken place. It is silly to blame people for facts they had no way of knowing.

My prayers go out to the extended family of Benoit’s wife and child.

Update: Since I typed this I heard the horrid shrew on CNN, otherwise known as Nancy Grace, in her usual shrill voice berating WWE for it’s tribute show. It must be nice to live in a world where you can accuse people of failing to take into account facts they couldn’t possibly have known.

WWE is “1984” style “Victory Gin,” the worst, most boring puke.
Bring back Shane McMahon and David Flair.

Make WWE compete; it really can’t.
    It’s called monopoly.

  4. TNA is doing its best Why-Why. Sadly, its best doesn’t seem to be good enough.

Did not mean to dismiss the tragedy of these deaths.
Pro wrestling has apparently always been guilty of overworking the wrestlers.

Chris was short, reminds one of Rick “Quick Draw” McGraw who also
    left us way too early.

You might think Vince could ease up a little; the list of early WWF/WWE
    deaths is very long.

Yeah, Total, but TNA is duller than Am. I-Dull.

Chris is just one of many in a long string of wrestler’s deaths.

I myself find it hard to believe he did it…my mind swirls with all sorts of conspiracy theories…

You aren’t the only one. But unfortunately, I think that is wishful thinking.
