That Uneasy Feeling

Although I continue to lose weight, it isn’t happening in a healthy manner.  To explain, my recent illness has caused the return of my long slumbering fight with G.E.R.D.

While I was in law school I somehow ended up with a very severe form of G.E.R.D. that caused me to lose 30lbs (195lbs to 165 lbs) in less than 50 days.  During that time I couldn’t keep down anything- with the notable exception of Cheerios.  It wasn’t until I finally saw a specialist and obtained some Nexium that I found relief.

Ever since, every time I get sick enough to throw up, it somehow messes up my stomach and the G.E.R.D. returns.  It is a constant low-grade nausea, made worse by eating just about anything.  Nothing but Nexium works.  I have tried Zantac, Prilosec et al. and none do my a bit of good.

One problem.  I have no insurance and in order to get Nexium I have to see a doctor (for the prescription) and then pay for the rather expensive Nexium.  A total cost of roughly $150.  So I am going to sit this one out and see if it can get better on it’s own.

Keep me in your prayers.  This isn’t life threatening, but it is really annoying.

  2. We will keep you in our prayers too! Here are some of the things I know folks have used with some success dealing with it and getting relief without medication

Having good quality yogurt several times a day along with two acidophilus/bifodophilus capsules with a high bacterial count. For 3 to 4 weeks – Capsules 3 times a day with each meal and yogurt a cup in the morning, a half a cup after lunch and after dinner, with a spoonful now and then during the day if needed (it is very cooling and soothing). Avoid aspirn, tylenol, coffee – anything that can cause irritation.

Daily – Crushed garlic also helps (needs to be crushed so the body can absorb what is needed) – it has the ability to optimize bowel flora and kill pathogenic organisms such as H. pylori. (75% of people with gastritis test positive for Helicobacter pylori)

Also a detox type diet and lots of filtered water (a gallon a day).

    Hope you feel better soon!

  3. “Daily – Crushed garlic also helps”

I am sure my wife will appreciate this advice…lol.

Seriously, thank you for your helpful advice and your prayers. I have also tilted the head of my bed to help with the digestion problem as I sleep.

    Isaiah 58:8
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness [ Or your righteous One ] will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.
    Love
    Ash
